https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685850 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685850#c0 Summary: Unable to run desktop effects in OpenSuse 11.4 with i945 graphics chip Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: novell_david@bailey.id.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 In OpenSuse 11.4 I am no longer able to run desktop effects on my netbook with an i945 graphics chip. When I log in (to KDE), I get a message that desktop effects have been disabled due to poor graphics performance. I have run run desktop effects on this machine on previous versions of OpenSUSE (11.3, 11.2, and previous) quite well. As soon as I upgraded to 11.4 this issue appeared. I have run glxgears and I get ~ 50 fps. I have read bug: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=655937 This is allegedly due to the kernel driver. I have tried compiling the latest kernel from kernel.org 2.6.38.2-18 as well as installing 2.6.34.7-0.7 (from OpenSUSE 11.3, which did not contain the issue above). The problem was the same under all of the kernels. This implies the issue is NOT the kernel, as assumed in bug 655937 I have tried adding Driver "intellegacy" or Driver "intel" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf but no success. (relevant) Hardware: Asus S101 netbook graphics Intel GMA945 CPU Atom N270 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start KDE (under multiple kernels, from 2.6.34, 2.6.37, 2.6.38) 2. 3. Actual Results: Obtain message that desktop effects have been disabled due to poor graphics performance Expected Results: Should have been able to run all desktop effects with reasonable performance, as I had been able to do under previous versions. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
