Hi Jeff,
The laptop would boot with the kernel option 'console=tty0' or 'console=tty2';
the latter of which moved the console messages to the virtual console at
<CTRL><ALT><F2> .
Therefore, I am guessing that the kernel does not want to boot if there is no
serial connection that is able to receive the data. In the case of the USB port
the port might not be setup yet since USB functionality needs to be established
first and in the case of the 'ttyS0' there is no cable connected. 'ttyS0 is
probably connected to the docking station port; I do not have a docking station
or port replicator.
Is there anyway to copy the messages from the virtual port 'tty0' out to the
USB serial port 'ttyUSB0' after the system has been running?
Otherwise, I need a connection to the 'ttyS0' port aka COM1:
Do you have any other suggestions? Someone in the developer community must have
debugged kernels on laptops before.
Thank you,
Bruce.
