https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=662978 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=662978#c0 Summary: CPU microcode update does not work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: ASSIGNED Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: trenn@novell.com ReportedBy: trenn@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: crrodriguez@opensuse.org, kasievers@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Since the removal of the microcode_ctl service the microcode driver seem to not get loaded anymore because the first line of the udev rule never seem to match because no cpuX add event happens: KERNEL=="cpu[0-9]*", ACTION=="add", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe microcode" KERNEL=="microcode", ACTION=="add", RUN+="/sbin/microcode_ctl -Qu" Furthermore AMD microcode patching: - Does not need "/sbin/microcode_ctl -Qu" - Needs loading of microcode driver only for CPUs of family 10h and higher There is work in progress to autoload the microcode driver and specify autoloading on the correct CPUs inside the kernel via a MODULE_ALIAS("cpu:..."). But it's probably too late for that for 11.4. Therefore I'd like to revive the microcode_ctl service for 11.4 and add some additional AMD hooks (I'll attach the patch which works for me for SLE11 SP1 based package). Please respond quickly as timeline for 11.4 is running out and I am going to do the change the next days if I do not get feedback. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
