https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661414 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=661414#c0 Summary: GRUB Christmas/Seasonal Theme is offending + questionable security-wise Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: masz0@yahoo.co.uk QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.0; U; fi) Presto/2.7.62 Version/11.00 It's questionable to change the appearance of the bootloader without the consent of the (super)user. WHY NOT ASK BEFORE TAKING IT INTO EFFECT? It's just not right to push something upon the user. The documentation regarding getting-rid-of-it is vague at best. Since I wasn't going to spend more than half an hour doing it, I ended up just renaming the /boot/message file. Got rid of the graphical look at the same time, but I *really* don't want the christmas theme back. If you really need to include it, why not have a simple opt-out button right in the interface the first time it's displayed, and an easy way to disable it? Seasonal festivities have religious connotations and therefore I find the theme offending. A lesser objection could be made on the basis that it's ugly, but then again, so would any graphic solution in that resolution. Why not just give up? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot the computer Actual Results: Christmas theme with idiotic penguins. Expected Results: Normal grub screen with green background and white letters. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
