--- Comment #9 from Petr Gajdos 2010-12-20 14:46:50 UTC ---
I have submitted new package to home:pgajdos/dosfstools.
In regard to handling lower case letters: I wanted conserve the behavior of
mkdosfs and dosfstools how they handle labels with more than 11 characters.
That means, when label containing lower case letters entered, dosfslabel exits
with error but mkdosfs silently uses toupper.
In regard to storing labels: as far as I can see mkdosfs is behaving correctly,
it sets volume label in boot sector only, when no label specified on command
line, or sets volume label in both boot sector and entry in the root directory.
Only thing I change here is, that instead of ' ' it sets 'NO NAME
' when no label specified. dosfslabel behavior is (as far as I can see again)
correct when volume label entry in the root directory exits (e. g. created by
mkdosfs) -- it change the label in boot sector and in root directory too.
The last thing what should be addressed is using dosfslabel when volume label
entry doesn't exist. It should create one in the root directory, but currently
it is only changing that in boot sector.
And that is what I don't know how to do in general (so far): adding volume
label entry in the potentially non empty root directory (in opposite to
mkdosfs). I am not sure I will have time to learn it, but I will give it a try.
When I will fail, I would ask upstream to resolve it.
In the meantime, could you please look again at packages in my home project?
