--- Comment #6 from David Mills 2010-09-12 22:08:45 EST ---
After sticking with my 11.2 partition since my last post I decided to see if
anything had changed with 11.3. I booted 11.3, ran OnlineUpdate, selected all
available patches and proceeded. I noted that both the kernel and the
x11-server were among the updates.
The system froze during the update. I had to repeat the process several times,
each time managing to install a few more patches before a freeze.
Finally all were installed. I then installed a new ATI Radeon HD driver and
restarted the system.
It stayed up and unfrozen for several hours without an issue. Much longer than
it has ever lasted before.
Now I have to decide whether to bother trying to upgrade my main OS partition
to 11.3 (the partition I have used for 11.3 is not big enough to install all
the software I use).
I might not for the moment. All the features I had hoped to get from 11.3 that
I wasn't able to get working in 11.2, I now have working well with 11.2. So
there is little imperative to change any more.
Unless someone can list a bunch of good reasons to upgrade.
Thanks for people's help.
