http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621973 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621973#c0 Summary: opensuse installer: excellent for failblog.net Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nettezzaumanaa@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.10) Gecko/20100506 SUSE/3.5.10-0.1 Firefox/3.5.10 hi there i tested advanced capabilities of opensuse installer and here are results: ps. sorry for my probably ironic or offending tone, but it's rather fun, so don't feel touched ;) 1) scenario: server with two ifaces (eth0 and eth1) but only eth0 has a link - if you will set from gfxmenu static ip address and netmask + installmedia (install=$foo, tested on local web server), you will get wanted ip address on both ifaces and due bad routing table (network there will be accessible via both ifaces including one without link) you have delete in shell unwanted and invalid entry by hand (192.168.1.0/24 dev eth1) and then reinvoke netinstall with accepting already configured settings .. result: *fail* 2) if you will set as a kernel parameter network settings such a: hostip=$ip/$nmask gateway=$gateway nameserver=$dnshost install=$repo you'll be noticed that $repo is not valid, so you have to fix it by reinvoking net isntall from ncurses menu with accepting values as you had passed it on kernel line .. you can also check in shell, that everything works like charm (hostip, gateway, nameserver ..) if you use dhcp, everything will run fine (by some magic reason) .. result: *fail* 3) if you'll pass vnc=1 without vncpassword=, installer will ask for vncpassword on /dev/console, so this results into unaccessible remote server .. why OMG ?? vncpassword should be optional! result: *fail* 4) installer's stage #2 ?? heh. howto access it in case, that we need vnc=1 (or by using ssh) ?? this degrades vnc capability ;) result: *fail* 5) it seems like refresh of repos can't be skipped .. because ignorant zypper wants sometime ZYPP_ARIA2C=0 option, refresh in most of cases stucks and *cannot* be aborted via "abort" button .. this issue is really painful, because it tries for all repos and you need to wait until some timeout occurs result: *fail* 6) Patterns: for a god's sake!! how could normal user kick off a pattern like apparmor or media or so? in "installation summary -> packages -> details" you bloody can't uncheck pattern via righclick on check-mark and select icon of unchecked pattern .. for example, you need to uncheck a package audit if you don't want a pattern apparmor .. result: *fail* 7) i didn't find in docs or wherever some option, which restarts the installer (host) in case of error like unaccessible repo or so .. in case of vnc=1 host stucks with stupid Q: waiting for user input on /dev/console result: *fail* . i can go on .. regards, daniel Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
