http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=613216 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=613216#c0 Summary: Selecting a minimal install Server-Mode install a kernel-desktop Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 7 Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bruno@ioda-net.ch QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 SUSE/3.6.3-1.2 Firefox/3.6.3 When you choose minimal install it was noted (Server Text-Mode) The default patttern or software selection pre-select wrongly the desktop-kernel in place of default kernel ( for x64 or -pae for 32 installations) Junior Admin or new comers to opensuse will be catch be see. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start an install ( Net or Dvd) 2.Uncheck auto-configuration 3.Choose minimal install Actual Results: kernel-desktop is selected as dependancy with base-install pattern Expected Results: kernel-default choose if server mode and 64bits kernel-pae chosse if server mode and 32bits So Adding a base-server-pattern which is activated if minimal server install is choose is the best way to accomplish that, with a very minimal ressource. Sorry I'm not suffisant guru with pattern to propose directly the patch. Making a wrong kernel pre-selection can be very time consuming on server installation. Especially if newbies admin launch auto-update, install some special modules, etc They have to rebuild all what they've done kernel related. Also benchmarking (marketing test, or journalism preview) would be wrong in case of testing server. This give opensuse a bad image on using it as server, compared to other distributions and concurrent. If pre-selection is sometimes a good way to help end-user in term of choices, they should never be conter-productive to buisness. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
