"Strictly obey geometry" has no effect in this case in emacs. I tried running
emacs outside KDE (gnome and TWM or something like that), and there's no
problem in this case. The references I posted above indicate that the gtk-qt
engine may be at fault here, something that matches my experience so far.
Also, emacs has always had problems with the maximize button here since SUSE
9.3, if I remember correctly. When an emacs window opens, the maximize button
makes the window slightly shorter than the full height; pressing it again makes
it fully maximized. The initial size (the one the window had when it first
appeared) cannot be restored.
