http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=596896 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=596896#c0 Summary: CPU switches to highest P-state after computer is inactive for some time Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 5 Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: robert.schwemlein@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 SUSE/3.6.3-1.5 Firefox/3.6.3 The CPU on my notebook (Samsung X20, Centrino platform) switches to the highest P-State when the computer is inactive (mouse is not moved, nothing is typed, no video or audio is played) for a while. Neither I can reproduce the time from start of inactivity to the moment the P-state switching occurs nor can I reproduce or force the P-state switching. It occurs not really every time but very often. With powertop tool it can be seen that the awakenings per second rises to about 1100 and the CPU is in the highest P-state (1,6 GHz) for more than 99 % of time (the normal values now as I'm writing this are: about 76 awakenings per second and the lowest P-state (800 MHz) for 88 % of time). Sometimes the computer don't recover from that state and has to be switched off. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot the computer, login to KDE 2. start powertop in konsole 3. leave the computer alone and watch the screen Expected Results: It should be expected that the CPU stays in C3-state and the lowest P-state if the computer is not used. A typical powertop screen looks like that: Cn Verweildauer P-States (Frequenzen) C0 (Prozessor läuft) (100,0%) 1,60 GHz 99,9% zyklisches AbfraC1 halt 0,0m 1333 MHz 0,1% C1 halt 0,0ms ( 0,0%) 1067 MHz 0,0% C2 0,1ms ( 0,0%) 800 MHz 0,0% C3 0,0ms ( 0,0%) Aufwachen pro Sekunde : 1067 Intervall: 10,0s Keine ACPI Stromverbrauch-Schätzung verfügbar Häufigste Ursachen für das Aufwachen: 94,0% (1001,0) <Kernel Kern> : hrtimer_start_range_ns (tick_sched_timer) 1,5% ( 16,2) <interrupt> : ata_piix 0,9% ( 9,2) kblockd/0 : blk_plug_device (blk_unplug_timeout) 0,5% ( 5,2) firefox : hrtimer_start_range_ns (hrtimer_wakeup) 0,4% ( 4,0) <Kernel Kern> : usb_hcd_poll_rh_status (rh_timer_func) 0,4% ( 4,0) mysqld : hrtimer_start_range_ns (hrtimer_wakeup) 0,2% ( 2,2) <interrupt> : ipw2200, Intel ICH6 Modem 0,2% ( 2,1) <interrupt> : uhci_hcd:usb5, yenta, i915@pci:0000:00:02.0 0,2% ( 2,1) kwin : hrtimer_start_range_ns (hrtimer_wakeup) 0,2% ( 2,0) Xorg : i915_add_request (i915_hangcheck_elapsed) 0,2% ( 2,0) akonadiserver : hrtimer_start_range_ns (hrtimer_wakeup) 0,2% ( 2,0) yakuake : hrtimer_start_range_ns (hrtimer_wakeup) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
