I suggest updating jack to version 1.9.5 compiled with FFADO support.FFADO is a
great improvement for firewire audio cards over the previous firewire
friver(freebob).

I successfully tested jackd 1.9.5(compiled from source rpm ) in conjuction with
FFADO from this repository:

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/phoe/openSUSE_11.2/x86_64/ffado-2.0.rc2-12.1.x86_64.rpm)

,using an M-Audio firewire solo soundcard.

Jackd works flawlessly with this setup(i had problems with all the other
versions i tried),and the pulse audio modules "module-jack-sink" and
"module-jack-source"(from OBS multimedia) are finally stable and usable.
