OK, I just booted off an old image of my hard drive (about 2 months old) and
that booted. That was using kernel 2.6.31.8. I shutdown, and using the rescue
disk installed that same kernel on my current drive. I booted up and got an MCE
again (clocksource tsc unstable). This is making me wonder if there is a
package that's corrupted on the drive that needs to be reinstalled. What
packages besides the kernel are used in the boot process, particularly this
early? I could reinstall them from the rescue disk and build from there.
