No you mistook what I said, my laptop has a different graphics chip altogether,
that is not where the problem is. The problem continues to be with the Intel
I845G chipset on my Desktop which is an HP Pavillion 754N. I got the system to
install using the vesa driver with the Network installation disk. During the
installation process the proper chip was identified and then installed in the
system. The problem is with the latest version of OpenSuse 11.2 and the 845
Chip. I would venture to guess that since during the installation process there
are several screens chucked into video memory the problem on the running system
is the same.
1. Logging out of the KDE locks the graphics system, access is available to the
system via ssh, no other combination allows for recovery to the graphics.
2. switching screens through ctrl-alt fnX locks the system as well.
I guess since you did mark this as a resolved issue there is no more to do. I
will wait and hope that once the kernel or the orgx recompiled the problem will
go away, I would not have actually marked this as resolved since I could have
provided the needed files to localize the problem.
Thanks,
Phil
