I have more detailed information to append:
I found out that after the Installation (from the Live System) and the
following reboot, YAST needs to finish some configuration. And obviously it is
exactly this thing which goes black. If I press Ctrl+Alt+F7 or F8 on the
resulting black screen the screen changes from black to a strange white grid
like this:

In the top left corner you can see some icon which should be a lizard-symbol in
fact. I am pretty sure that it came from the YAST configuration tool. The
configuration however can never be finished because the screen is unreadable.
Another important point: let's assume I have not installed openSuse yet and I
am just putting in the openSuse CD into the drive and start the computer up:
the CD boots into the menu. Now if I want to choose a direct Installation (and
not booting a Live System) following happens: a green bakcground with the
lizard appears and obviously openSuse is loading some files into the RAM (my
guessing). After that the YAST screen SHOULD appear - but in fact it doesn't. I
also ends up with the same black screen or white grid.
I also tried out options like apm=off or acpi=off but it didn't change
anything. Also I tried it out on the KDE CD, but it happens the same.
