Since someone wanted me to comment, I say: "Complete failure".

1. someone forgot to detach signd from CTTY

2. signd spewing to my tty thus:
2010-02-18 18:14:39: zero size packet

3. /srv/obs/log/signer.log containing obssigner's notes:

Name "BSConfig::sign_project" used only once: possible typo at
/usr/lib/obs/server//bs_signer line 96.
starting build service signer
MD5 checksum error
sign failed: sign
failed: 256

4. Why does it tell me something weird about an MD5 checksum error?

5. rpm -Kp ...checkinstall-1.6.2-1.1.sparc64.rpm returns sha1 md5 ok.
