When I run alsamixer -c0 and adjust master volume up and down (and the
resulting volume is the same as the previous), then it sounds good.
Whenever I touch pulse mixer again, the sound becomes unusable.
It seems that pulseaudio probably generates incorrect software mixing output.
Note: The same problem (or a very similar problem) affects also ~10 years old
Intel onboard cards found on PIIX mainboards.
