"After a distro upgrade on my side, which upped xterm from 236 to 242,
I do get black spaces in BCE screens. This is visible in many places
such as the editor "joe" (joe-editor.sf.net) and the MUA "alpine".
This minimal testcase seems to reproduce the effect:
echo -en "\e[44m\e[2Ja"; sleep 600;
[hit ^C]
In xterm-242, this will produce "a^C" (^C comes from sh), followed by a
black space. It is this black space that did not appear in xterm-236.
I am certain it is not bash-4.0's fault as it appears in other
programs too."
Reply from Thomas Dickey:
"I see this in #242, but it was fixed in #244 (#251 is current).
The detail here is mentioned in
http://invisible-island.net/xterm/xterm.log.html#xterm_244
demote recent change to Debian #252873 fix to experimental, ifdef'd out as
EXP_BOGUS_FG (Debian #522141)."
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. see above
Suggestion to upgrade to at least xterm 244.
