Yes, I did, and I restarted Gnome.
I got the idea to try Lynx, and I am not sure if this sequence is interesting
but :
% /usr/local/bin/proxy http://www.google.com
http://jc:12345@proxy_server:3128
% echo $http_proxy
http://jc:12345@proxy_server:3128
% lynx http://www.google.com
Alerte! : Autorisation du mandataire requise - nouvelle tentative
TR-Username for 'Squid proxy-caching web server' at proxy 'jc:123':jc
Mot de passe : *****
Note that the first attempt fail. It seems to get the credential from
http_proxy and there it fails.
Secondly, it requests a manual input, but it keeps by default the password at
it was read.
And there, as you can see, the password was truncated !
It could be a bug in the display of Lynx, but it could also be the cause of
this issue.
Note that in my real password, there is no special character, just 6
alphanumeric characters.
