Making the session startup deterministic is not the correct fix.
For example: Network authentication can take up to 45s after the client fully
starts. Even if KNM is started first, everything else would still be loaded
before the authentication completes. This is too long. Would you wait 45s
after entering your password for the session to be fully usable? And what
happens if there is no network available, we wait 45s + to time out before
continuing? With some network types it is impossible to recognise failure any
sooner.
The correct fix is to make applications like Thunderbird able to react to
network status changes at any time in the session. If Thunderbird is erroring
in the time between its startup and KNM's completing the network connection
setup and auth, please file a bug vs Thunderbird.
It may help to setup your network connections as system connections, this way
they will be available before login, but this may not be acceptable in all
cases (for people who want to confine network secrets to one user).
