Likely another process is already accessing the sound device.
JACK requires the exclusive access to the sound device, and it doesn't like
anyone else accessing the device before it. The situation is basically
independent from the distro, thus this shall happens no matter whether SUSE or
Ubuntu.
Try to figure out which process is using the sound device by "fuser -v
/dev/snd/*". I guess it's pulseaudio.
If so, try to run qjackctl from pasuspender, e.g.
% pasuspender qjackctl
