Summary: oemboot mis-detection
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 11.2
Version: Factory
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Installation

I image my 4+Gb USB image to my (fast) Sandisk drive in some SATA <-> USB caddy
or other. The oem imaging system boots, and then we get:

Found boot device: /dev/sdb
Searching for USB stick device.......
Searching for USB stick failed, checking CD/DVD drive
Waiting for CD/DVD device(s) to appear..........
Failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drive !
rebootException: error consoles at ...

I check the console, and I see:

++ cat /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb-storage/....../sdb/removable
+ removable=0

This seems to be a lie - I can un-plug the USB cable pretty easily ;-)

But - the question is - why should we have to image -from- some removable media
? surely since we have /dev/sdb mounted, and we just booted from it, and the
data is there - we know enough ? :-)

Or - failing that, can we not guess that a usb device is in fact removable ?
