When I try to use many Internet functions the interface locks. This is almost guaranteed to happen when using firefox. Especially when opening a new tab (but general browsing can do it as well). I have also had the same problem in Konqueror, but it is much less frequent. The underlying system still functions as it is possible to ssh to it. The mouse quite often still moves, but does not select anything etc. The system doesn't respond to keyboard input. The only resolution is to hard reset the box. If I ssh into the box, I can perform functions normally. however, trying things like init 3, reboot etc allege they are working, but they don't actually complete. The system appears to work correctly under Gnome (I am using Gnome to post this bug) In several tests I was able to open / close tabs repeatedly in firefox when the PC wasn't connected to the Internet, but as soon as I connected the network the box froze again. I have another system that has the same version of KDE on it that appears to work normally. I have tried the latest version of Firefox (3.5.2) directly from Mozilla, creating a new profile, totally removing the ~/.mozilla directory etc, but none of those things helped. Actual Results: Interface locks. Mouse quite often still moves. Animated pointer may or may not continue working.
