http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=533559 Summary: Installing from an ISO image on a hard disk's NTFS partition fails Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ash25.icon@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.0; U; en) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.00 When I try to install openSUSE 11.1 from an ISO image placed on a hard disk's NTFS partition, it fails in the Initialize Package Manager phase with the error: "Unable to create repository from URL 'iso:/?iso=openSUSE_11_1_x86_64.iso&url=hd:///Softiez/opensuse/?device=/dev/sdb1&filesystem=auto' Details: failed to mount /dev/sdb1 on /var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000001: Mounting media failed (mount:/dev/sdb1 already mounted or /var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000001" Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Place the 11.1 DVD ISO image onto an NTFS partition on the HDD 2. Setup GRUB to boot using the initrd and linux kernel from the openSUSE 11.1 (extracted from the ISO) 3. After booting, choose Install 4. Choose the source as hard drive 5. Choose a drive partition which has the NTFS partition containing the ISO image. 6. Give the path from the root of the partition to the ISO file. 7. It would load the 6 images and give a message "No updated drivers" 8. It would now proceed into the GUI portion of the setup showing the license agreement. 9. Now choose Next and it would do few initializations including repository setup, which is where it would fail with the error mentioned above. Actual Results: An error message saying the location is already mounted or busy. Unable to create repository from URL 'iso:/?iso=openSUSE_11_1_x86_64.iso&url=hd:///Softiez/opensuse/?device=/dev/sdb1&filesystem=auto' Details: failed to mount /dev/sdb1 on /var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000001: Mounting media failed (mount:/dev/sdb1 already mounted or /var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000001 Expected Results: Installer should proceed without giving any errors This error does not occur when I had placed my ISO image on an ext3 partition on my HDD. Not sure about FAT32. This is a thread where I have mentioned the same issue: http://forums.opensuse.org/install-boot-login/420452-opensuse-11-1-install-h... I found the same issues reported here as well: http://forums.opensuse.org/install-boot-login/408281-opensuse-11-1-local-iso... Also mentioned on this wiki pages, that there is problem when the partition type for the image location is NTFS: http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_using_images -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
