As I am the one who indicated the setting on the cmdline "radeon.modeset=0", I
want to add a final comment. I have also discussed this with the radeon driver
maintainers and currently the KMS enabled driver is still in alpha.

The "radeon.modeset=0" cmdline option is only valid for openSUSE11.2 Milestone
5 !! I also found out that as soon KMS is disabled, this cmdline option would
cause the effect that DRI is again disabled during startup of the Xorg server.
Although this is not really surprising as this modeset is an option for a KMS
enabled kernel.

The easiest way to go forward is to remove the cmdline option and everything
will work as before. No issues. I am also sure that as soon as the KMS and the
KMS-enabled libdrm and Radeon driver are stable enough, that openSUSE will work
towards that direction. But at this moment things seems to be not that stable
yet.

And for people that really want to go that way, I guess that compiling a new
kernel with KMS enabled is not that big of a step as that it requires a svn
snapshot of libdrm and the radeon Xorg driver.
