The lv activation process includes actually 3 parts
- During booting, when / is not ready yet.
You need to turn on "lvm2" feature when invoking "mkinitrd". (This is done
automatically when / is on LV).
The script in initrd activates LVs for root and resume devices
- During booting, when / is ready, and init scripts are called
This is by boot.lvm. You can check /etc/init.d/boot.d/ to make sure that
boot.lvm is enabled.
By running boot.lvm, $LVM_VGS_ACTIVATED_ON_BOOT in /etc/sysconfig/lvm will be
activated (empty $LVM_VGS_ACTIVATED_ON_BOOT means any)
- Hotplug when the system is running.
This is by udev rules. There's a lvm related rule in /lib/udev/rules.d.
The lvm rule scans the newly added devices, and activate LVs inside if
possible.
Hope this helps. And if doesn't, please let me know what exactly doesn't work
for you. ;)
Thanks
