I think this is very important feature as many email clients have it like outlook, kmail, etc. So it'll be very nice if we can get it in at least suse version of evolution.
I agree it will a good feature to have but with current high priority tasks which are planned for GNOME 3.0, it's unlikely that we will be able to put any efforts here. I would close as wontfix for time being.
