Oops - I didn't notice that you use openSUSE 11.0 here
(I thought it is here also openSUSE 11.1 as in bug #502922).
Your comment that "The 'Local Filtering' is very unclear"
perplexd me but now it is clear that you use here the old
yast2-printer which is in the openSUSE 11.0 box.
But I have nothing to do with this version ;-)
My comment #1 was meant regarding the new yast2-printer
which we provide since openSUSE 11.1 but which I also
provide for openSUSE 11.0 via
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jsmeix/openSUSE_11.0/x86_64/
Therein
yast2-printer-2.17.51-1.1.x86_64.rpm
is more or less what is in the openSUSE 11.1 box and
yast2-printer-2.18.15-1.1.x86_64.rpm
is the newest version which is also in Factory, see
http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Development/Printer_Enhancement#Under_constructi...
regarding how to update.
Because I am not interested in the outdated yast2-printer
which we had in the openSUSE 11.0 box, I would recommend that
you upgrade to my newest yast2-printer and report how good or bad
network printer setup works for you with the new one.
Therefore I close this bug report as "wontfix" because we will
not fix anything in the outdated yast2-printer - except really
severe bugs (but no missing functionality).
If there are issues in the new yast2-printer, please submit
new bug reports (one for each separated issue) and provide
only the matching /var/log/YaST2/y2log for each bug, i.e.
copy it immediately after the issue happened to you using
-----------------------------------------------------------------
root@host# cp /var/log/YaST2/y2log /tmp/y2log.foo_broken
-----------------------------------------------------------------
You can do this while yast2-printer is still running.
This way you can later attach /tmp/y2log.foo_broken
which shows at its end exactly the state in the log
when the issue happened.
This helps me very much to easily understand what
exactly happened on your system.
I would ask for more log files when I really need them.
