--- Comment #3 from Marius Tomaschewski 2009-04-15 03:07:14 MDT ---
It ignores your request, because there is no ifcfg-eth0 file and the
BOOTPROTO default settings is not "dhcp" but "static"...
There are two possibilities:
- create a minimal config file:
echo "BOOTPROTO=dhcp" > /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0
ifup eth0
# ...
ifdown eth0
- provide the BOOTPROTO setting via environment and use ifup-dhcp
BOOTPROTO=dhcp ifup-dhcp eth0
# ...
ifdown eth0
Both ways are AFAIK working fine. Please note, that ifup-dhcp is
and was not intended for direct use and is a inofficial way to
start the dhcp client. Resolving the issue as WORKSFORME.
Note also following changes:
BOOTPROTO=dhcp starts both, dhcpv4 and dhcpv6 clients _when_ the
clients are available in /sbin (dhcpv6 is not in rescue system).
BOOTPROTO=dhcp4 starts only dhcpv4 client BOOTPROTO=dhcp6 starts
only dhcpv6 client.
