So, years passed, we have opensuse 11.1 and the problem is still there.
The moment some app (or system?) starts using HDD like mad (I can tell by the
noise) I can either wait (today I waited for hour, no effect) or cold-power off
the computer.
Originally it was observed on 32 bit system with 2GB of memory, now it is 64bit
system with 4GB of memory. I am changing data accordingly to new values.
