You are right. I use pam_mount to transparently decrypt my encrypted home
partition: The password for the encrypted partition is the same as my user
password and when I login, the user password is passed to pam_mount, so I don't
have to enter it twice. Naturally when calling commands like "su" there is no
user password to pass to pam_mount and hence the password has to be re-entered.
So when I call "su myusername" as root, it asks for a password:
root@earth:~# su tittel
reenter password for pam_mount:
I assume the same problem will happen if somebody uses the official "encrypted
home directory" feature provided by YaST, so I don't think that this problem is
specific to my configuration (besides that there is nothing wrong with my
configuration anyways). If possible the YaST network module should not depend
on "su $username" always succeeding without password, because depending on the
PAM configuration it just won't do that.
I'll attach the output of "pstree -paul" right away. Thanks for digging into
this.
