http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=491661 Summary: zypper slowness Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: zypp-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ajohansson@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=283775) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=283775) strace from zypper run Suddenly zypper takes a very long time to start up. Running an strace shows some very strange behaviour. e.g. 9801 open("/etc/zypp/zypp.conf", O_RDONLY) = 4 19801 read(4, "## ", 3) = 3 19801 close(4) = 0 19801 lseek(3, 0, SEEK_SET) = 0 19801 read(3, "## Configuration file for softwa"..., 4096) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 19801 lseek(3, 4096, SEEK_SET) = 4096 It does this lseek 130 times before finally reading 3093 bytes, then it does 19801 lseek(3, 7189, SEEK_SET) = 7189 a further 95 times before closing the file. A little later it opens repo files and goes through a similar routine with repo files. There seems to be a lot of strangeness going on. I'm attaching the complete strace zypper-1.0.5-2.1.2 libzypp-5.25.3-0.1.2 # time zypper lu Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... No updates found. real 0m22.929s user 0m1.528s sys 0m0.380s This used to be practically instantaneous. The time here is almost completely before the first line "Loading repository data...", and I would guess it is spent almost entirely in waiting for I/O This has happened on two different machine, in the office and at home. The only similarity between the two (other than software) is that they are both x86_64 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
