Just to try something different, I tried writing the generic grub code to the
MBR during this last install.
So continuing in the same test case as above:
G. Captured the mbr.after file after the first failure to install grub
H. Went back in to the grub options and check the "Write Generic Boot Code to
MBR" box. And attempted to reinstall grub. Again, the grub install *failed*.
I. Said that I did not want to rety the grub install, so the system rebooted.
J. This time the system *was* able to find the OS and the grub menu came up
successfully.
K. Note, however, that the big blue functionality isn't quite there.
L. After booting to Linux I again grabbed a copy of the mbr. It is attached as
mbr.generic.
