In my view this bug should be reopened.
I followed the above instructions with RC1 and was able to write optical media
as a user.
I have installed openSUSE 11.1 i586 & x86_64 GM to different PC. Normal login
is via KDM. Both retain the characteristic that a user cannot use k3b to write
media without repetitively having root change the write permissions on
/dev/sr(n). The permissions change every time media is inserted/ejected. k3b
often needs to be reloaded to recognize the changed permissions.
This is a most annoying bug for beginners, who need to install from CD/DVD
media and cannot be expected to follow the unofficial procedures for installing
directly from .ISO images.
