Despite that I couldn't reproduce for this bug report, it _has_ happened
numerous times, so it is not a one-off issue.
First time I noticed it was when using battery power. I had KDE4 running,
connected my laptop to another computer and issued 'ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.5'
to assign a static ip.
Subsequently, I started vsftpd, and then received the battery notice, after
which the above hang occured.
Last weekend I was attempting to resolve a dial-up DNS issue where the DNS
servers where not getting written to /etc/resolv.conf (someone else seems to
have filed that bug already) and there was a lot of enabling/disabling
NetworkManager and settings changes involved. Several times, I noticed that the
battery monitor would fall from <90% to zero and back up again within a few
minutes. (I was on AC power, so no standby/hang.)
