Alas, the upstream definition of "read-only" is closer to "view only", hence
the inability to sort columns/change cell values/etc.
Fortunately, there is an easier solution for you. There is an Edit File button
to the left of the "Export directly as PDF button" on the Standard toolbar (the
toolbar, from left to right, is New, Open, Save, Document as E-mail, Edit File,
..).
After clicking the Edit File button you will be prompted "Do you want to edit a
copy of the document." Click Yes, and a "transient" copy will be made so that
you can make changes (sort columns, etc.). You will NOT be prompted to save as
a new file immediately; rather, you will be prompted to save the document if
you make changes and then close the file.
Thus, the current solution would be:
- click on the attachment in mail client
- Click the Edit File toolbar button
- sort the spreadsheet
- check the data
- close oocalc and throw away all changes (I don't care about them, I just
wanted to see the data)
