https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=466593 Summary: Safely remove option does not stop USB devices Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 2 Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Usability AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: steffen.sobiech@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-1.1 Firefox/3.0.5 Unlike in KDE3, selecting "safely remove" in KDE4 does not stop USB devices, thus giving no feedback (from the hardware, e.g. LED does not expire) to the user when the device can be safely unplugged/removed. This could lead to data loss especially for new users. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Plug in USB thumb drive 2. Copy a reasonable amount of data to it 3. Select "safely remove" for the thumb drive Actual Results: If you remove your device too early, you will likely experience data loss. Expected Results: Stopping the USB device would give the user a feedback from his/her hardware (e.g. LED expires on the device), so he/she can be sure the device can be unplugged/removed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
