https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=466068 Summary: openSUSE should ship with VL Gothic font for Japanese language Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: mfabian@novell.com ReportedBy: kyoshida@novell.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Development VL Gothic font is a derivative of Sazanami font, and is widely used and admired by the Japanese Linux users. Other major Linux distros such as Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Gentoo and also *BSD distributions ship with this font. openSUSE should also ship this font and use it as the standard font for the Japanese locale. The license of VL Gothic is the same as Sazanami font, which we already ship. More info on VL Gothic font: http://dicey.org/vlgothic/ The latest package can be downloaded from here: https://sourceforge.jp/projects/vlgothic/downloads/36935/VLGothic-20090108.t... P.S. I also received a comment from one Japanese Linux user that, the choice of standard font makes a huge impact on selecting a distro, and this may be one of the reasons why Japanese users pick Ubuntu over openSUSE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
