Thanks. The problem is that BIOS on the Gateway laptops is usually crap, and
doesn't set up the pins properly.
Could you try alsa-driver-unstable-kmp package on OBS multimedia:audio:KMP
repo?
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/audio:/KMP/
Or, wait for a while until the latest alsa-driver-kmp package is built on that
repo. Should be ready in today. See rpm changelog after downloading it.
This contains some fixes for Gateway laptops.
These KMPs (install only one of them) are driver-update packages, and you can
install the rpm just via rpm, e.g.
rpm -Uvh alsa-driver-pae-kmp-*.rpm
then run "rcalsasound restart".
Oh, before using these RPMs, it'd be better to upgrade alsa.rpm and
libasound2.rpm from OBS multimedia:audio repo, too:
