By the way: Regarding printing size of images:

Have in mind that there are unprintable margings.
Only what is defined as ImageableArea for the
particular paper size in the PPD file for your
printer (in /etc/cups/ppd/queue_name.ppd)
is the printable area.
If the image size exceeds the printable area,
CUPS splits the image, see
http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/doc-1.3/options.html
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Scaling to Fit
..
The default is to use the size specified in the file.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

When printing an image file from the command line
you can use the "-o fitplot" option e.g. like
lp -d queue_name -o fitplot file.png
but note
http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/doc-1.3/options.html
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This feature depends upon an accurate size in the print file.
If no size is given in the file, the page may be scaled incorrectly!
