https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=447101 Summary: libavahi-common3 should not depend on avahi Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 4 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sbrabec@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: pgajdos@novell.com Found By: --- There is a lot of users, that want to use GNOME and don't want mDNS (e. g. users of AD .local domain). They may want to install GNOME without avahi and .local domain resolving. The simplest way to do it: remove nss-mdns. It is not possible, as whole GNOME depends on it: GNOME is linked with libavahi-common3. libavahi-common3 does not anything useful without avahi, and avahi strongly recommends nss-mdns. It break AD local domain lookup. I propose to remove dependency of libavahi-common3 on avahi. Application will be linked against the library. People, who want mDNS support will install avahi and GNOME will start to support mDNS .local domain. The change itself is trivial, but may have a big impact on default package selection.
