New headline: The problem seems to be with gtk2-32-bit 2.12.9-36.2
------------
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this executables are no dynamic ones:
mna@bach:~> ldd $(which acroread )
not a dynamic executable
mna@bach:~> ldd $(which vmware-server-console )
not a dynamic executable
They are closed-source ...
You are right, glib2 was updated too, from standard (opensuse update repo)
version 2.14.1-4.2 to 2.16.3-23.1 (GNOME_STABLE repo).
To track it down I have set all versions back to openSUSE standard with yast
and started over stepwise:
1. After installing the newer glib2 (and neccessary dependendies gnome-vfs2,
libgio, ...) the mentioned programs run flawlessly - no problem.
2. If I install additionally gtk2 in the newer version 2.12.9-36.2 then the
problem doesn't occur ether (surprised). Now gimp 2.6.2 can be installed and it
runs.
3 After updating additionally the gtk2-32-bit from 2.12.0-5.5 to 2.12.9-36.2
(corresponding to the gtk2 version) then the problem occurs:
mna@bach:~> acroread
/usr/bin/acroread: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0:
undefined symbol: g_dpgettext
mna@bach:~> vmware-server-console
/usr/lib/vmware-server-console/bin/vmware-server-console: symbol lookup
error: /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_dpgettext
After going back to gtk2-32bit 2.12.0-5.8 all seems fine!
Fortunately gimp 2.6.2 runs fine now with the older gtk-32bit (I think it's not
needing this lib) so I am fine now, my personal problem is solved, I have to
stay with the older 32bit version and the newer 64 bit version.
But I think generally there is a problem with the new gtk2-32bit library not
providing the symbol g_dpgettext
Thanks for your engagement.
