Of course I am no insider, and of course it means some work -- but honestly, I
cannot believe that it is such an incredible amount of work to put out a single
patch or package via the update service. It is just *a single package*.
If something like that really is a Herculean task, then we might want to think
about some changes to the update system...
And for that:
"I suggest you take part in the beta tests of openSUSE to verify that the
functions you require are working _before_ the release."
.. you must surely have addressed someone else with that suggestion :)
But you also have to agree that it is impossible to test everything before the
final release. And many reports that are valid don't even get assigned before
the final. Many things are broken when GM is frozen in 11.0 we hat ath5k as a
good and known example, in 11.1 it will be XFS, grub, and some KDE functions.
It really is frustrating to have to watch that. So there are cases where a good
distribution should deliver patches after the release, too, and not just for
security issues.
Yet, I do understand that pstoedit is not as essential as other stuff, so I can
live with it. But not too happily :)
BTW: pstoedit is not just for a certain inkscape plugin
