I can confirm the existence of the bug on a very similar system if that is any
help.
System:
OpenSUSE 11.0 x86_64
kernel-default-2.6.25.11-0.1 (x86_64)
(I have also tried 2.6.25.18)
ASUS M3N78-EM with NVIDIA GeForce 8300 chipset
AMD PhenomX4 9850
4GB RAM
I also use the proprietary nvidia module.
I have a ps/2 keyboard and USB mouse.
Symptoms:
The mouse pointer freezes once in a while. Like every few hours. (So it is too
rare to investigate easily, but too frequent to use the machine comfortably.)
Only a reboot helps bring it back again. The keyboard still works and so does
everything else, so one can still start applications (like a browser and a
konsole) and use them. But X in itself cannot be killed, if I try to go to the
console with CtrlAltF1 I just get a permanent black screen. (But the console
window under X works of course).
dmesg and /var/log/messages do not show anything very specific (tell me if you
want to see them).
modprobe -r ohci_hcd hangs, but I can still use a pendrive after ohci dies, so
evidently ehci is allright.
That's all I can think of at the moment. But I guess this should rule out the
"loose cable" option.
Best regards Gabor
