https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=441003 Summary: during installation, bootloader can not be configured. Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta4 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: seife@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Development The update from beta2 to beta4 decided to change the harddisk driver from libata to old ata (bug 440986), so that the bootloader installation failed (/boot/grub/device.map was wrong). I was, however, not able to reconfigure it with the dialog provided after the error. for the "custom installation partition", i got a dropdown box with only one entry, not entirely visible because the box was much too small. It contained /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_TOSHIBA_MK1214G_68E7W03RW, a device that is not present. So i tried to change it manually to /dev/disk/by-id/ata-TOSHIBA_MK1214GAH_68E7W03RW, but every "retry" overwrote the setting. Then I gave up and pressed "back" which actually acted as "forward" and ended the module. I stopped the reboot process and installed grub manually which worked, after i corrected all the bugs introduced by the yast config (it would have installed the grub into the first VISTA partition, probably with devastating results, even though I had instructed it to "install into boot partition": root@stoetzler:/tmp# cat /etc/grub.conf.old setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd0,0) (hd0,1) quit I fixed it up: root@stoetzler:/tmp# cat /etc/grub.conf setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd0,1) (hd0,1) quit ) Unbootable system -> blocker.
