https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=440890 Summary: Intel 3945 wireless interface needs a restart to function Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mario.natiello@math.lth.se QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Created an attachment (id=249270) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=249270) output of diagnostic commands I run OpenSuSE 11.0 downloaded from official repository with all updates found in the official repositories. Kernel 2.6.25.18. At boot, the wireless interface does not work. I.e., it does not transmit/receive to/from the router, but it does not signal any error that I can detect. It is not a router problem, I have three other devices in the LAN functioning properly, none of them with Suse 11.0, though. I use traditional method with ifup and no encoding, hence there is no NetworkManager log nor wpa_supplicant log. It is not a Yast2 problem either, since it works with a restart. I attach dmesg and the output of iwconfig and ifconfig on the interface. Details:
From iwconfig and ifconfig the interface seems to be up and connected to the correct network, it has identified the proper access point and details of the network such as signal strength, etc. However, no bits transmitted, no error signal. Nothing. Only symptom detected is that the command "route" takes about one minute to answer. The answer is however what I deem to be correct, nothing strange in the routing table.
After issuing: ifdown wlan0 ifup wlan0 the interface works and route answers within the second. I get exactly the same routing table as before, only that now the network is working. ======= There are a number of suggestions in similar bugs and in the forums. I tried them all. None works: 1. Enable/Disable hardware scanning on the interface. No result. 2. Upgrade the firmware to the newer version available in linuxwireless.org. No result. I am currently using their firmware. 3. Install the compat-drivers from linuxwireless.org: Worse performance! After installing those drivers, the hardware ligth indicator is on, of course, but the access point states "not associated", although the router is properly detected with iwscan. After issuing iwconfig wlan0 ap HW_ADD no difference. Access point still not associated. This is potentially a coming bug, since I suppose those drivers are standard in 11.1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
