https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=439983 Summary: overnight zypper dup run halts with an abort/retry/ignore message because of network timeout Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: zypp-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: robin.listas@telefonica.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=248685) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=248685) zypper log (Please CC to "Jan Kupec" at suse (cz), bugzilla says he does not exist. He does.) This has happened several times, it is an old problem. It's a report similar or related to Bug 425035 and Bug 354392, and we have been talking about it on the factory mail list. I run "zypper -n dup -l" during the night: my adsl does only 100mbit/s and I have hope of the repo staying stable long enough. However, the adsl can, and does, go down now and then for a minute, making zypper to fail the download and quit. If I'm present typing "r" to retry always work - but I'm usually sleeping. So when I come back in the morning, the repo has already changed and retry fails: .. Retrieving: efont-unicode-0.4.2-215.9.noarch.rpm [error (1.1 K/s)] Timeout exceed Abort, retry, ignore? [A/r/i]: A Retrieving: content [done] Problem retrieving the package file from the repository: Can't provide ./suse/noarch/efont-unicode-0.4.2-215.9.noarch.rpm : Timeout exceed .. If zypper retried a few times for a longer period, better if configurable (or via a parameter), this problem would be solved. I will attach zypper.log later.
From my router log, I know the adsl events were:
Oct 29 03:23:14 router klogd: ADSL link down Oct 29 03:23:16 router pppd[324]: Clear IP addresses. Connection DOWN. .. Oct 29 03:24:17 router pppd[324]: Received valid IP address from server. Connection UP. .. Oct 29 04:53:46 router klogd: ADSL link down Oct 29 04:53:50 router pppd[324]: Clear IP addresses. Connection DOWN. .. Oct 29 04:55:06 router pppd[324]: Received valid IP address from server. Connection UP. You can see both events last a a bit more than a minute, and they match the timeouts in the zypper.log: 2008-10-29 03:26:14 <5> nimrodel(8411) [zypp] Exception.cc(log):119 MediaCurl.cc(doGetFileCopy):1293 THROW: MediaCurl.cc(doGetFileCopy):1293: Timeout exceed Notice that when this is logged, the network is up already; but I was awake and typed "retry". 2008-10-29 04:56:45 <5> nimrodel(8411) [zypp] Exception.cc(log):119 MediaCurl.cc(doGetFileCopy):1293 THROW: MediaCurl.cc(doGetFileCopy):1293: Timeout exceed Same thing. This time I was not present. If this is not solved, it makes almost impossible for me to do factory testing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
