The "1" is the number of the id type if we are able to read page 0x83, "1"
indicates a binary id. The "S" is prepended if we (only) get page 0x80:
$ scsi_id --page=0x83 --export --whitelisted -d /dev/sda
ID_VENDOR=ATA
ID_MODEL=ST910021AS
ID_REVISION=4.06
ID_SERIAL=1ATA_ST910021AS_3MH0Y3KF
ID_SERIAL_SHORT=ATA_ST910021AS_3MH0Y3KF
$ scsi_id --page=0x80 --export --whitelisted -d /dev/sda
ID_VENDOR=ATA
ID_MODEL=ST910021AS
ID_REVISION=4.06
ID_SERIAL=SATA_ST910021AS_3MH0Y3KF
ID_SERIAL_SHORT=3MH0Y3KF
It might be caused by missing the scsi_id config file in the installation
image, which let's ATA disks always use page 0x80. Reading page 0x83 didn't
work in the past, before full featured SCSI mode page emulation was added.
Steffen, are we sure, that /etc/scsi_id.config is correctly available in the
installation image?
