Hello,
did you tested it from SLES10 ?
I used SLES10-SP1 and then I tested two OpenSuSE 10.1 on the latest
patchlevel.
The Server on OpenSuSE 10.1 is: xorg-x11-server-6.9.0-50.54.7
If the line is there-> crash
without it-> works
The remote X11 server needs to be old enough, then it will crash. :-)
I had the same with SuSE 11.0, but never looked into it in detail.
xkbcomp compiles a binary keymap and then loads it into the X11 server,
I think this is the reason for the crash, because the binary is created
on the SuSE 11.1 hosts (based on the new X11 server) and then written
into the old one. This produces the crash.
Another option is to SSH from a SLES10 into Suse11.1 and issue:
setxkbmap us -print | xkbcomp - $DISPLAY
(need X11 forwading of course) Just tested it: crash.
regards,
Martin
