Update doesn't have any second stage. If a first stage crashes, there is no way
how to rerun it on reboot. Starting the update from media again is the only way
and this is what installation/update process can't do on its own.
Of course, if a new installation fails in second stage, it should ask whether
to rerun it on reboot. But even a new installation doesn't offer that if it
fails in first stage. There is just no way.
Anyway, if it fails in the first stage, Linuxrc should catch it and report
something like: Installation has failed. After that, there is a menu that
(also) offers to start it again.
Andi, was that your case? Failed update in first stage?
