https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=428104 Summary: Split out xauth from xorg-x11 for ssh X forwarding Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: guru@unixtech.be QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Please split /usr/bin/xauth into a separate package as it is required to do X forwarding with ssh. On servers, one wouldn't want (nor need) to install the whole xorg-x11 package just to enable that feature. xauth itself only depends on a few splitted-out X11 libraries (xorg-x11-{libX11,libXau,libXdmcp,libXext,libXmu}) and not on the whole xorg-x11 package. Use case: a server without X but where one wants to use GUI apps (e.g. yast2-qt) remotely. SSH X forwarding does not work if xauth is not installed on the remote end (the server). If /usr/bin/xauth was split out in a subpackage, say, xorg-x11-xauth (required by xorg-x11), then it would be possible to enable the scenario as above without installing the complete X11 package. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
